This is a guide to making Step Tables on Ballroom.wiki.

Example Step Table

A Step Table will generally look something like this:

 Man — No Turn Whisk
Step # Feet Positions Alignment Amount of Turn Rise & Fall Footwork Sway CBM Timing
1 LF forward Facing DW —— Com. to rise e/o 1 HT Straight Slight 1
2 RF to side and
slightly forward
Facing DW —— Cont. to rise on 2 T Left 2
3 LF crosses behind
RF in PP
Facing DW —— Up. Lower e/o 3 TH Left 3
Notes

ISTD: “The position of step 2 is consistent with step 2 of a Closed Change."

Notes:

 • General abbreviations such as LF, HT, LOD are not linked.
 • Directions L and R are written out Left and Right.
 • Rare abbreviations such as NFR are linked.
 • Longer portions of text should be broken in half or thirds using a <br /> tag.

Table Code

Header

Don't touch this part!! You can copy the table header verbatim to any new step table.

<!--NO TURN WHISK MAN-->

Title Line

The first row contains the title and part (Man or Lady), and is filled with the color (see table) of the respective dance.

colspan="9"|&nbsp;Man — No Turn Whisk

or for the Lady (in Tango):

colspan="9"|Lady — Twist Turn

Column Headers

The second row contains the column headers. These are standardized across all dances. The background color is the same as the title line.

Step #
Feet Positions
Alignment
Amount of Turn
Rise & Fall
Footwork
Sway
CBM
Timing

Table Body

The body is a straight-forward transposition of the dance technique. Note that larger voids are filled with two &mdash; characters, while smaller gaps receive one.

LF forward
Facing DW

Com. to rise e/o 1

Notes

Some figures will have notes at the bottom: these are appended in a collapsed element at the bottom of the table. The notes will go in the quotation marks.

colspan="9" style="font-size: 90%; text-align:left;"| <div class="toccolours mw-collapsible mw-collapsed"><b>Notes</b>
<div class="mw-collapsible-content">
<b>ISTD</b>: “The position of step 2 is consistent with step 2 of a Closed Change."
</div>
</div>

If there are no notes, simply end the table with a |} tag.

Colors

The Header row of each Step List should be colored according to its respective dance, so that users may instinctively realize when they have navigated from one dance to another.
